- Shameer Gaidhar is the President and CEO of Millenium Plus Homes, a Calgary-based inner city builder founded in 1997 and a founder of Raindrop Gala. In 1998, Shameer graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and found his passion for custom home building with Millenium Plus Homes. Shameer joined the Canadian Home Builders Association Calgary Region and began volunteering with the Inner City Development Committee in the mid-2000s. In 2014, Shameer was appointed the Chair of the Inner City Development Committee. In 2018 Shameer was awarded the Volunteers of the Year From BILD. He has been a member of the City of Calgary Storm Water management committee, a member of the City of Calgary Main Streets Committee and has also lead multiple negotiations with the City of Calgary representing the inner city developers regarding costs, directions of city policies and future city developments. Shameer has also been asked to be a guest lecturer at both SAIT and University of Calgary to students to speak about his expertise within the building industry, as well as an expert panelist for City of Calgary at the LIPD conference in 2017. In 2016, Shameer and his wife Shirzaan, hosted the first RainDrop Gala. Ticket sales, sponsorship money and silent auction money is raised in support of the World Partnership Walk, an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation of Canada. In Shameer’s words: Raindrop Gala is “a great event that helps fight global poverty. To date Raindrop Gala has raised over $200,000!” Shameer gives back simply because he feels he has a lot to be thankful for – a lovely wife, beautiful children and his supportive family. As hard as Shameer works, he is equally committed to fun and travel is a big part of that.
